Abstract

This study evaluated the MRI as a diagnostic tool for diagnosis and staging of colorectal carcinoma as well as evaluation of the response to adjuvant and neo adjuvant chemotherapy. Thirty patients were included in this study, 18 males and 12 females with their ages ranged between 32 and 75 years, and the mean age was 52.5 years. All patients were presented with rectal cancer proved by histology. Patients were referred from the outpatient clinics and department of Surgery in Al-Hussein University Hospital during the period from 2009 to 2012. The results showed that all patients were subjected to Pre and Post chemotherapy MRI examinations. At initial MRI examination, the locations of the tumours were as the follow. The lesion located in the lower third in 5 cases, in the middle third in 15 cases, in the upper third of the rectum in 10 cases.
